I think "metabolism" is BS
Metabolism is just a reflection of a person's structure... nothing more.
Ever since I was a kid I’d taken for granted that metabolism is some type of scientific thing.
I’d never questioned it.
But the past decade I’ve paid attention to various patterns that lead me to believe that it is complete bullshit.
People that have these ‘good metabolisms’ just happen to ALWAYS be the folks that are much better structurally.
And the ones with poor metabolisms are the ones whose structure is worse.
And when people change their structure (for the worse), their ‘metabolism’ magically ALWAYS GOES ALONG FOR THE RIDE.
Let’s dive in deeper today and i’ll explain a bit more about what i’m seeing.
So what is metabolism?
Metabolism is generally thought of as how fast you burn energy and thus how easily you maintain your weight.
For example a person with a ‘good metabolism’ tends to be able to eat a lot without putting on much weight or fat. Whereas a person with a bad metabolism puts on weight easily.
If you want the more scientific definition than it consists of catabolism (breaking down molecules to release energy) and anabolism (building molecules for cell growth and repair).
The energy produced powers bodily functions such as breathing, circulation, and physical activity.
What impacts your metabolism?
There’s a few key things ‘experts’ seem to point to:
Body Size and Composition: Larger bodies and those with more muscle mass tend to burn more calories.
Physical Activity: Regular exercise increases calorie expenditure and can improve metabolic efficiency over time.
Diet: Overall calorie intake remains the most critical factor. But hgh-protein diets may increase the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF), which is the energy used to digest and metabolize food.
So therefore weight gain or loss occurs when calorie intake exceeds or falls below total calorie expenditure.
But increasing muscle mass can slightly boost metabolism because muscle tissue requires more energy to maintain than fat.
Now let’s start tearing up their arguments
Scientists believe: that your metabolism is a key factor in determining weight gain.
Ken believes: that there is no such things as metabolism. And rather your structure determines how it stores energy. If you have very good structure it is nearly impossible to gain weight (at least as fat).
Scientists believe: that metabolic rate tends to decrease with age due to loss of muscle mass and hormonal changes.
Ken believes: that it is not the metabolic rate but rather the decline in structure. So if a person maintains their structure much longer than average… miraculously their metabolism improved with it.
Scientists believe: regular exercise and strength training can help mitigate age-related metabolic slowdowns.
Ken believes: that these dental biomechanics I talk about blow exercise and strength training away in terms of maintaining good structure. And metabolic rate is purely a function of structure.
Scientists believe: genetics play an important role in metabolism.
Ken believes: that genetics play almost zero role. Because structure is not genetic.. it is biomechanics relating to the curve of spee on the teeth.
Applying a bit of logic
So i’ve made some big claims above in basically calling this ‘metabolism’ stuff complete bs above. Now let’s back it up with a bit of logic.
Observation 1: People that worsen their structure because of extractions, orthodontics, or maintaining an open bite.
I’ve seen this many times including on myself when I kept an open bite.
A person that was ‘naturally skinny’ their entire life all of a sudden changes their body shape for the worse quite rapidly despite maintaining all of the same habits and calorie intake.
2014 when a dentist drilled my back teeth was a classic example. I’d always thought i had a pretty good metabolism as an adult and stayed slim naturally, but all of a sudden my body went to shit in a matter of months while doing the same exact exercise routine and eating the same amount of calories i’d always had.
How did this ‘metabolism’ i’d maintained for 37 years all of a sudden disappear?
ummmm because it was always bullshit to begin with!
I’ve heard a similar story over the past decade from probably at least 100+ others. Most often from folks that did extractions and then saw their body shape change in the following few years.
Observation 2: People with very good structure always find it hard to put on weight.
I pay attention to people with good structure for about a decade now. These will be the people who are quite good looking, are naturally flexible and are often good athletes.
I love to hit them with questions about their past like…. have you ever been fat? What is the fattest you’ve been? What would happen if you ate a lot of food the next few months? etc.
And the answers from the folks with very solid structure are always the SAME. They find it very hard to put on weight period! Doesn’t matter how little exercise they do or how much they eat.
They always just figure that they have a very good ‘metabolism’. But obviously calories in, calories out is NOT how it works with these people.
And then when you see some of them change their teeth artificially like a Christina Applegate (who i wrote about here)
…or a Selena Gomez (who i wrote about here)
…and they all of a sudden lose this gifted metabolism and put on a shit ton of weight…. they realize that their genes are not any different from the rest of us.
Closing thoughts
After paying attention to the patterns for a decade now I pretty much consider the word ‘metabolism’ absolutely stupid.
And I laugh at the fact that it is still considered ‘science’.
It is just so obvious once you understand this biomechanics paradigm that it is complete and utter BS.
Show me a person whose structure falls apart and yet their metabolism stays strong and I might change my mind.
But you won’t be able to. Because your structure falling apart pretty much by definition means your body went to shit.
And therefore the only real question to ask is… what causes the body to go to shit?
And in the coming years I will put the answer to that one beyond a doubt….
…it is BIOMECHANICS that relate to the teeth.
Can you please do Tom Cruise?
I have a few opposing points to your biomechanics-as-root-cause hypothesis:
1. Professional sumo wrestlers consume special high-calorie diets to practice their sport. Look at their body structures.
2. Consumption of refined carbohydrates negatively impacts facial attractiveness: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33118381
3. Super Size Me: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Size_Me
I would propose that biomechanics and metabolism are interrelated and can affect each other; I.e. damage either one and this can cause the other to deteriorate. This makes more logical sense since we know soft tissue affects biomechanics. So if metabolism is negatively affecting the soft tissue, this would change the biomechanical structure as well.
