A number of parents in our community have asked me about Toothpillow.
They ask me if it’s similar to Reviv.
And it is.
The appliances do the exact same thing and work by the exact same physics, regardless of what they want you to believe.
But our approach is very very different.
You see they want to work within the current dental system and if I wanted to build a business that works within the confines of today’s system I would have built something that looked very similar to what they have done.
But I don’t.
I want to disrupt this bloated BS dental system we have… and completely blow it the f#ck apart. Because I honestly think that that is what will serve you guys (the ones suffering at the hands of this system) the best.
And today i’ll explain why.
First, what is a Toothpillow?
To learn more about the system you should check out the video above. Basically it is a mouthguard like Reviv or Myobrace, but administered via a dentist and supported by a program that includes a myofunctional therapist, an app for exercises, virtual checkins etc.
The whole thing can be administered online via their support staff. And so basically the dentist sells the service, but most of it is executed by the Toothpillow team.
But let’s call a spade a spade here… it is a clone of Myobrace.
And similar to Myobrace they work via dentists. You cannot, as a customer, purchase the appliance directly from them.
Which means that it is very expensive for customers. Often starting from like $3k and I’ve heard even $5k from one person.
Also similar to Myobrace they mainly just focus on kids.
A bit about their company
Toothpillow was founded in 2022, by Chad Rasmussen, who currently serves as the company's CEO. He is not a dentist, but rather has a marketing and biz dev background.
There is a good video of him explaining why he founded the company here.
The inspiration behind Toothpillow stemmed from Rasmussen's personal experiences with his son, Jakobi, who faced dental challenges such as crooked teeth and cavities. Witnessing Jakobi's transformation motivated Rasmussen to establish Toothpillow, aiming to provide accessible, non-surgical treatments for children aged 3 to 12, focusing on improving breathing, sleep, and overall health.
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Toothpillow has grown to a team of 11-50 employees. It also works with over 70 dentists and has had 4500+ kids in treatment.
Their vision is to try to work with all of the ~200,000 dentists in the US plus go abroad. Impressive plans :)
Probably because he’s a business guy and not a dentist.
Comparison to Reviv
Reviv is essentially a direct-to-consumer model and does not operate via dentists the way Toothpillow does.
Why?
Well I completely disagree that this process is dental. For me this process is perhaps 10% dental. If that!
When you wear a mouthguard you are essentially changing cognitive function, neurology, the spine, various organs, mental health, and much more.
Does a dentist have a degree in neurology? How about osteopathy? Do they understand anything about this other 90% of the impact that is non-dental?
NO! They don’t understand any of this!
That is what I consistently found about most dentists that I have been to in my early years when I was still looking for answers.
And that is why thousands of orthodontists are literally ruining millions of people around the world each year with braces, aligners and extractions. Because they understand nothing about how it flattens the curve of spee and literally crushes a person’s skull.
Who has the right to sell a mouthguard?
I think this battle of who has domain to administer a mouthguard will be fought out legally one day. When the world understands better its full impact.
One challenge they will face is that literally every mouthguard sold on Amazon will need to fall under the same scope…. boxing mouthguards, football mouthguards, anti-bruxism mouthguards, etc etc
Why do I say this? Because the reality is that THEY ALL DO THE SAME THING.
Remember that there are only two rules to how you impact these biomechanics:
1- Add vertical height
2- Unlock the occlusion
And every mouthguard does this. So to say that you can sell a boxing mouthguard on Amazon but you cannot sell a biomechanical one is actually a complete waste of an argument.
Because if worn for equal amounts of time they will have a similar (powerful) effect on the human body and that can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt quite easily.
In any case Reviv has already initiated the process of getting both CE (Europe) and FDA(US) approval as a class I medical appliance, which is more than can be said of the hundreds of mouthguards that are sold on Amazon, eBay and Aliexpress.
Shockdoctor, for example, which is probably the #1 selling mouthguard brand on Amazon for many years running does not have FDA approval as a class I medical appliance. And nobody seems to care.
Is a dentist needed in this biomechanical process?
This is really the question given the grey area that mouthguards fall into.
‘Grey’ because essentially the world does not yet understand these biomechanics and the massive impact it has on the entire body. So it is not yet strictly regulated.
So for me it is more of a moral question.
Where does a dentist add value in this process?
And my conclusion is NOWHERE.
They understand only the 10% that is the teeth.
Sure there are some dental questions/issues that come up during this process but they are just questions of logic. And on most of these questions I find that the answers the dentist will give you are often the wrong ones.
They will urge you to remove wisdom teeth, get braces, get palate expanders, etc. All things that are extremely damaging to the human skull and skeleton.
Why are they peddling that shit? Because those are very profitable things for them to sell.
And so in my experience a transparent community like Reviv is a far, far better way of administering this biomechanical process.
Because I understand more about this process than any dentist I have ever met. And its not even close. Because I actually iterated on this process on my own body for over a decade.
Also in a community people will openly exchange information and experience in a many-to-many relationship as opposed to the one-to-many relationship that dentists gatekeep,
Because of this dentists are prone to give the information that serves their interests, while withholding other information when they find it advantageous.
Note that on Reviv’s Skool community there are probably 1000+ posts by folks doing the process and I have yet to delete a single one. We are about transparency.
Closing thoughts
Reviv and Toothpillow are essentially the same appliance in my view. At least if you truly have a deep understanding of how this works as I do.
But at very different price points… they charge $3k+ and we charge just $100 for a RevivOne with support/community.
Sure they will probably claim different, but it comes down to a single question at the end of the day…. who understands how this shit works better?
Them or me?
And that is where I honestly think that I blow them out.
I’ve pieced together why this process works (curve of spee, the skull inflates, etc).
I understand exactly how it impacts things like cognitive and neurological function because i’ve done it to myself numerous times and realized the patterns. They are clueless.
And with my ‘fast method’ I will do this biomechanical process much faster than any dentist, myofunctional therapist, etc.
And speed is to me the ultimate indicator of how well you understand how this process works. Because you need to know what to optimize for… and that took me many years.
Anyway, as we continue to march more and more Reviv-ers out of their health issues each day via this DIY method, people are gonna realize just how simple this biomechanical stuff is when you have the correct understanding of it.
And I think they will laugh at the thought of paying a dentist thousands of dollars for something they can do themselves far better and faster. Especially when they have ready access to a supportive community of hundreds of others who are doing the process as well.
F#ck the system. Let’s democratise health together!
Yes!! I'm so happy you decided to advertise and the algorithm found me!
My 12 year old son was declined by Tooth Pillow. I am now excited to try Reviv for both myself and him. We both have crowded teeth, narrow jaws and airway issues during sleep. Also, we both have Ehlers Danlos. Ordering today!
